🐸👑 Building a Winner’s Mindset from Childhood – The Path to Success
Determination from an Early Age – Lessons from Brian Tracy That I Pass On to My Daughters
Is it possible to learn determination and success from an early age?
While writing the book “Successful Mindset: The Key to Achieving Your Goals” with Brian Tracy, I often reflected on how valuable it is to gain life wisdom early in life. I learned these principles over many years—through trial, error, and consistent effort to improve myself.
Now, as I watch my daughter Alexandra grow, I see how important it is for her to absorb these lessons right from the start. Alexandra already understands what determination, self-confidence, and belief in success mean—values that form the foundation of Brian Tracy’s teachings.
Small Steps Toward Big Success – Learning to Ride a Bike
One of the first examples that showed me the importance of building a winner’s mindset from an early age was when Alexandra was learning to ride a bike.
She was 5 years old at the time. At first, everything seemed easy—she was excited and ready for the challenge. But after a few falls, frustration set in. Impatience, doubt, and even thoughts of giving up started to creep in.
Watching this, I immediately remembered Brian Tracy’s words:
“Never give up—success is reserved for those who try one more time.”
I told Alexandra: “Winners never give up.”
I encouraged her to try again. And again. I kept reminding her that every new attempt brought her closer to success. And it worked—after several determined tries, she confidently rode forward on two wheels. She was overjoyed, and I was proud—not just because she learned to ride a bike, but because she learned that persistence leads to success.
Overcoming Challenges – Learning Spanish
What she learned during her bike-riding lesson often comes back in other situations.
For example, when Alexandra says she can’t learn Spanish, I remind her of that moment with the bike. I tell her:
“Do you remember when you couldn’t ride a bike? And you couldn’t speak German, Polish, or English? But now you can! See? You can learn anything if you keep trying!”
I also add words of encouragement:
“You know what? Children in China speak Chinese. In Spain, every child speaks Spanish. Your friend Carla from Australia didn’t speak Spanish when she first arrived in Spain, and after just a few months, she learned. You can do it too!”
I see how these words boost her confidence and help her overcome moments of doubt.
Alexandra is learning Spanish with the Duolingo app. So am I. She’s actually doing quite well. I don’t push her too hard, as it’s already her fourth language, and she’s only eight years old. She already speaks three languages fluently. That’s why I don’t insist she spends too much time on it. She watches cartoons in German, English, and Polish and understands them. We’ve slowly started introducing The Smurfs in Spanish, but only occasionally for variety. Alexandra probably knows The Smurfs by heart by now, so even if she doesn’t understand a word or two, she still gets the context. And that’s exactly how children learn languages—by listening and imitating.
My older daughter, Victoria, speaks German fluently (her native language), Polish (her second language, as she was raised bilingual), and English (she communicates easily, watches movies, and holds conversations). She’s also learning Spanish. When she applied to an airline, she recorded her video in four languages.
When the Roles Reversed – My Golf Lessons
A few years later, I faced my own challenge.
I decided to learn how to play golf. It sounded great at first, but it quickly turned out to be much harder than I had imagined. After several failed attempts, I started to feel frustrated.
I was close to giving up, ready to put the golf club down, grab a book, and wait in the café while Alexandra finished her training with the coach.
And then Alexandra walked up to me with a smile and said:
“Mom, winners never give up!”
Her words were a powerful reminder of the very lessons I had taught her earlier. How could I quit after teaching her that persistence is the key to success?
I picked up the golf club and decided to keep trying—not just for myself, but also to show her that what I teach works in practice. And although I didn’t become a professional golfer, I felt an incredible sense of accomplishment for not giving up.
Teaching Determination to My Older Daughter, Victoria
I also teach my older daughter, Victoria, the same lessons about determination and resilience.
However, with Victoria, I didn’t start as early as I did with Alexandra. When Victoria was little, I was just beginning my own journey and learning the principles taught by Brian Tracy. I was at the very start of my path, still figuring out how to apply these principles in my own life.
Now, with years of experience and personal growth, I’m able to pass on what I’ve learned—not just to Alexandra but also to Victoria. I teach them both about determination, self-belief, and taking action despite obstacles.
And it doesn’t stop there—I share these lessons in my posts, articles, and books to inspire others to develop the same mindset.
Summary – Determination as the Key to Success
Learning determination from an early age is an incredible advantage. Alexandra already knows that failures are part of the journey to success. She understands that giving up is not an option, because every step—even the most difficult one—moves us closer to our goals.
I continue to learn how to push my own limits. Despite the challenges I face in both business and personal life, I know I will overcome them. And I know that you can too.
